redis - Google Code →
Redis is a key-value database. It is similar to memcached but the dataset is not volatile, and keys can be strings, exactly like in memcached, but also lists and sets with atomic operations to push/pop elements. re: strings as keys : non-unicode only?
What if the feminist blogosphere is a form of... →
Feminist blogs currently function as a wolf in sheep’s clothing. We are supposed to rally behind these mega-blogs because they call their work “feminism,” but should we really be expected to support a system that perpetuates larger oppressive dynamics and marginalize the voices of queer, working class, non-American, and/or women of color?

“We’ve read almost every study on obesity as reported in the media, and there is compelling evidence that many overweight people — and particularly morbidly obese people — are headless,” said Dr. O.R. The bursting of the housing bubble caused the current crisis, but the underlying problem began much earlier — in the late 1970s, when median U.S. incomes began to stall. Because wages got hit then by the double-whammy of global competition and new technologies, the typical American family was able to maintain its living standard only if women went into the workforce in larger numbers, and...

STEVE FORBES: That gets to a point you make in terms of when people put together these new [financial] products, it always works in the past.
JOHN BOGLE: It's so ridiculous, and so much of the system is based on this, Steve, that for example, the long-term return on stocks has been 9 1/2 percent. That's a 4 1/2 percent dividend yield and a 5 percent earnings growth. The 9 1/2 percent means nothing when the dividend yield is 1 percent. It means that you've lost 3 1/2 percentage points of future return. So instead of 9 1/2, the future return at a 1 percent yield level should be about 6 percent.
